Hoping against Hope-2020 : An essay by Souriddha Mandal

The year 2020 has been a witness to a number of events, due to which we are always ‘hoping against hope’.

All Indians initially hoped that Coronavirus will not be able to survive in our country due to the high temperatures, but now the situation is totally different. Yet, we are hoping that it will fail in doing what it did to the other countries.

I know that schools will not start classes like before but I am still hoping that we will be able to go to school again.

Going out and playing with friends will not be possible for us, but there is a hope in our hearts that we will soon be able to enjoy as we used to.

I like sports very much, especially the Indian Premier league (IPL). There is a rare possibility of the tournament taking place this year, but I hope that IPL will continue without any problems in the years to come.

The cyclone Amphan was predicted to pass through Kolkata. Yet we had hoped that it would change its direction. But our hopes gave way to despair when we saw the extent of damage it had caused.

There is no one who does not like to go on a vacation. Although we know we will not be able to do so, we are hoping that in the near future, we would.

Finally, I am sure that Swati Ma’am’s classes are being missed not only by me but also by my friends. But we always hope that we will again get the charm of the physical classes with Ma'am in front of us, which is not possible during online classes.

The light of hope is flickering in the dark room of scary events. But we all are hoping that it will, someday, light up the entire room and make our hopes come true.

SDG Story Writing Contest : SDGs by Meerab Butt, Bloomfield Hall School, Pakistan

A civilization rides on the shoulders of its youth force. And when the question is of existence or sustenance of the planet as a whole, the children and the youth of the entire world need to come together, think together and act together to make that possible. Let us read what some of them have to say to us through their stories on SDGs, ponder on what they are trying to say, act accordingly and try and change our ways of life. Perhaps this is the only way we can ensure that human civilization is not wiped out of the face of this Earth .
