HCL, Noida Campus

A group of colleagues gets bored after a tiring day of work and decides to involve in some fun activity.”Treasure Hunt!”, shouts Nisha. With video games and poker room out of choices, the boys didn’t have much to say. “Allright”, nodded Rohan , and the group quickly dispersed , after a 15 minutes preparation. The time had now started ticking and all the teams needed to hurry. Avnish was just about to jump through the stairs, when something stopped him from doing so. He turned to his left, and got a glimpse of the south-west wing. The darkest of the campus, and the place which no one wanted to talk about.

He caught Subham’s hand and said “Let’s go to that side. Something dosen’t feel right there.” He couldn’t refuse him for long due to the firm grip on his hands, and soon they advanced to the corridor which seemed quite out of place to the otherwise overlit building. They finally stopped in front of a cabin. Shabby, unclean and dusty. It seemed that this place had not been cleaned in years. But the most surprising part of the cabin was its lock, which was tied with a red thread, the significance of which was still beyond the understanding of any one of them. Subham finally gathered some guts and just when he was about to touch it, a grim dark voice came from the other side of the corridor. “Noone comes here. Go back to your place”. Unbelievable, a security guard in an entire wing of darkness! Why is he here, and importantly what is his work? As the answers to these questions seemed paramount now, Avnish slowly moved towards him.

-“Tell me the truth. What is within the silence of staff here? What is behind the hesitant smiles of the managers here?”

– “Sorry sir, I can’t lose my job!”

His will soon became lenient as Avnish slid out a note of 500 from his pocket.

And in the darkness that soaked in, two young scientific minds were to hear a story that would defy every advancement, every bit of logic that ever existed.

“This story is about a sincere girl named Rina. Year after year she was awarded the best employee of the team. She was the apple of the eyes of every project lead. And the project was hardly ever escalated for any misses in her presence. Until one day. When she did not come and did not even inform. The manager thought she might be sick. But this continued. It was 10 days then. The manager tried contacting her. Beyond network coverage, it said. 20 days had now passed. The manager finally found out the emergency contact from her profile and called her parents.

-“Are you joking with the pain of my life?”

-“What do you mean, ma’am? It is very important for us to know…..”

-“Shut up and keep the phone. My daughter has expired 4 years ago.”

The manager fainted. When he regained his senses, he himself went with a team sharing all the details with her family. The family confirmed it was she and also showed them her death certificate. It was that very day when she took leave to visit home, said her family.

The team rushed to the office. Background check was done, and it was seen that she had indeed taken a leave on the day she passed away. And the reason?”Visit to hometown”. And she joined back, exactly one day after her funeral! The entire team was sweating. The office cab vendor was called.

-“Where do you usually pickup her from?”

-“Exactly from the same place as her mentioned address.”

-“And drop?”

-“Same place sir.”

-“Did you ever see her coming out from her building?”

-“No sir, she always use to wait at the stop”

The team went to the mentioned address. The landlord instantly recognised her.

“Yes she was my tenant. But she left 4 years ago. I don’t know of her present.”

After her disappearance many events happened in the building, a girl in night shift found another girl sobbing with head resting on the commode in the washroom next to her. When she confronted her, she saw her own face. She left her job immediately. The management decided to seal her place and this wing. Her desktop is still in that cabin. You would laugh sir, but I know she works even now. She is the best employee. And I am there for her security.” Avnish and Subham were still, baffled, crying and cold.

Bio:

When I find no one to talk to, I pick up my pen. It helps me travel places, reaching people I have never met, and finding peace all at the same time. There's no better feeling than the feeling of expression. When I am not writing, I am probably coding, dreaming about becoming a teacher, going to the mountains or wasting my time.

Accelerating Change to solve the water and Sanitation Crisis with Ancient Indian Technique - A write-up by Funlishian Tuhin Kanti Ghosh

It is a well known that our Earth, despite having ¾ of its surface covered by water doesn’t have enough water for humans. The reason, also known, is that 97 percent of it is saline water which is unusable. Of the 3 percent we do have, the expanding human population wasted and polluted much of it continuously to make way for water and sanitation crisis. In the recent years we have realized this and started to work to change it. But the change is not being able to keep up with the constant damage. Hence comes the need to accelerate it. While large projects like building dams help in accelerating change, small changes collectively make a much bigger impact. For example, fixing a leaking tap wasting 500 ml of water a day may not seem much but if all millions of citizens fix their taps, then in just a day millions of litres of water and rupees will be saved. There are numerous ways in the internet for saving water that you can do.     Another way to accelerate change c...

Wonders of Water - A poem by Ishaan Biswas, Grade IX, Funlish Language School

To the transparent water; O’ you nature’s daughter, How are you so calm, so cold? How do you grab the world ahold? Why are you so kind, to show the way to the blind? How are you so noble? Why do you even care for the smallest cobble? O’ the guardian of life, You are why we are alive. Why do you still love us, when we create a fuss? Thus you are our precious mother, you forgive us albeit we inflict disasters one after another. Thus is our oath to your kindness, we shall always be righteous. Hence we shall conserve every loch, for our succeeding flock.

This isn't a Feminist Mark : A poem by Anushka Jana

However much we think, Or hate the colour pink, Can we be fearless like you? Or be as daring as you? Do you think we’ve purpose, Like delicate flowers, a simple rose? To exhibit when it’s fresh, And throw when reduced to flesh?   Will it be a sin to do? Things that most of you do, Blaming, shaming and curbing us, We wonder how many of us you did curse! And why would you do so? Because we let our ambitions grow? Because we step out of veils And look fabulous in our esteem, Or because we love ourselves And try to look out of kitchen shelves? We dream to invent remedies, To sign important treaties, Pen down novels without pen names And excel in various games. Driving cars and repairing lights And guarding streets on dark nights And to speak, to debate, We want to do things and not wait. And we didn’t sink our hearts, Neither focus only on sewing skirts, Nor on only cooking for your bunch of kids, But we tried to help ...
