Save Water - A short story by Funlishian Aritra Banerjee

There was a boy named Arun. He lived in a small village in Mumbai. Belonging from a rich family, he got whatever he wanted. So, gradually he became greedy. He used to waste a lot of water everyday while taking shower, not switching off the taps as there was no shortage of water. His parents used to warn him but he did not listened to anyone.

One day, while he was sleeping, he suddenly saw a bright light. She was like human but had wings and was dressed well. She told Arun, “Why you waste so much water? Water is so much essential to all of us.” Arun answered, “There is so much water available and it is free to all. So, everyone should use it freely and it does not matter if we waste it.” She replied, “You will face the consequences one day.

Next day, when he woke up, he thought it to be a dream and did not think much about it. He still wasted water.

One day, in the morning, he saw the news that there is very less water left on Earth. He still disbelieved the news.

The next day, it was all well in the morning, but in the afternoon, there was a total panic and chaos all around. Arun saw the news. It announced that people were receiving dirty water. So, probably Earth was almost out of water.

Arun could not believe his eyes when he saw dirty muddish water coming out of the tap. He could survive for that day as he had some bottles of water. But the next day, he was having some respiratory problems. He again saw that bright light and the angel. She said, “You did not believe me and wasted a lot of water. You are facing the consequences now.” Saying so, she left.

Arun died that day after suffering a lot. But, the whole world was suffering for people like Arun who always wasted water. Slowly, the Earth destroyed with absence of water. So, it is a request to all to save water so that we all can live happily.

A civilization rides on the shoulders of its youth force. And when the question is of existence or sustenance of the planet as a whole, the children and the youth of the entire world need to come together, think together and act together to make that possible. Let us read what some of them have to say to us through their stories on SDGs, ponder on what they are trying to say, act accordingly and try and change our ways of life. Perhaps this is the only way we can ensure that human civilization is not wiped out of the face of this Earth.

Christmas : An essay by Rumish Ali Saif, Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, India

So finally Christmas is here. This has been a long and struggling year for all of us. But I would like to keep that corona stuff aside for now. That talk has been monotonous for all of us. Celebrations are low-key this time, but the adrenaline rush for presents is not any less. I wish for two new books for the winter vacation. I have started an early preparation of vanilla and chocolate cookies and am done with the usual decoration of a Christmas tree with lights. Dan Brown books with Robert Langdon mystery and amazing facts about secret societies are all I need for a break from life’s dullness.   So I believe in Christmas magic - actually all sorts of magic and trust me it’s one of those things that spark our thoughts for the urge to know and explore more. Some people think that after a certain age, we become more realistic and less imaginative, but what’s life without a few crazy thoughts and miracles huh?   I see great scientific discoveries and inventions like th...

The Essence of Swaraj - A write-up by Funlishian Aishi Das, Grade VIII

The Essence of Swaraj On the historic day of August 15th, 1947, a nation rose from the shackles of colonial oppression to embrace freedom. India, a land rich in culture, diversity, and resilience, embarked on a remarkable journey towards freedom, leaving a permanent mark on the annals of history. The story of India's independence is not merely a chronicle of political struggle; it is a saga of courage, sacrifice, and firm determination that continues to inspire generations.   The road to independence was paved with the blood, sweat, and tears of countless individuals who dared to dream of a better tomorrow. Leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, and countless others became the symbol of hope, igniting the flame of revolution in the hearts of millions. The non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi, through acts like the Salt March, showcased the power of unity and commitment to justice.   However, the journey was not without its ...
