Save Water - A short story by Funlishian Aritra Banerjee

There was a boy named Arun. He lived in a small village in Mumbai. Belonging from a rich family, he got whatever he wanted. So, gradually he became greedy. He used to waste a lot of water everyday while taking shower, not switching off the taps as there was no shortage of water. His parents used to warn him but he did not listened to anyone.

One day, while he was sleeping, he suddenly saw a bright light. She was like human but had wings and was dressed well. She told Arun, “Why you waste so much water? Water is so much essential to all of us.” Arun answered, “There is so much water available and it is free to all. So, everyone should use it freely and it does not matter if we waste it.” She replied, “You will face the consequences one day.

Next day, when he woke up, he thought it to be a dream and did not think much about it. He still wasted water.

One day, in the morning, he saw the news that there is very less water left on Earth. He still disbelieved the news.

The next day, it was all well in the morning, but in the afternoon, there was a total panic and chaos all around. Arun saw the news. It announced that people were receiving dirty water. So, probably Earth was almost out of water.

Arun could not believe his eyes when he saw dirty muddish water coming out of the tap. He could survive for that day as he had some bottles of water. But the next day, he was having some respiratory problems. He again saw that bright light and the angel. She said, “You did not believe me and wasted a lot of water. You are facing the consequences now.” Saying so, she left.

Arun died that day after suffering a lot. But, the whole world was suffering for people like Arun who always wasted water. Slowly, the Earth destroyed with absence of water. So, it is a request to all to save water so that we all can live happily.

This isn't a Feminist Mark : A poem by Anushka Jana

However much we think, Or hate the colour pink, Can we be fearless like you? Or be as daring as you? Do you think we’ve purpose, Like delicate flowers, a simple rose? To exhibit when it’s fresh, And throw when reduced to flesh?   Will it be a sin to do? Things that most of you do, Blaming, shaming and curbing us, We wonder how many of us you did curse! And why would you do so? Because we let our ambitions grow? Because we step out of veils And look fabulous in our esteem, Or because we love ourselves And try to look out of kitchen shelves? We dream to invent remedies, To sign important treaties, Pen down novels without pen names And excel in various games. Driving cars and repairing lights And guarding streets on dark nights And to speak, to debate, We want to do things and not wait. And we didn’t sink our hearts, Neither focus only on sewing skirts, Nor on only cooking for your bunch of kids, But we tried to help you pay h

SDG Story Writing Contest (1st Prize Winner) : Who is the Best---The 17 SDGs by Rumish Ali Saif, Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, India

A civilization rides on the shoulders of its youth force. And when the question is of existence or sustenance of the planet as a whole, the children and the youth of the entire world need to come together, think together and act together to make that possible. Let us read what some of them have to say to us through their stories on SDGs, ponder on what they are trying to say, act accordingly and try and change our ways of life. Perhaps this is the only way we can ensure that human civilization is not wiped out of the face of this Earth.
