Prayer : A poem by Sayantani Mukherjee

Prayer

Streets deserted...
Malls vacant..
Life comes to a halt.

For once humans feel that doom is near
And the pain is too much to bear.

Yet, there are a foolish few who think that they rule the world
For whose imprudence life in a silent ball has turned.

For some it's such a cause for annoy
For the rest, Oh why these are days to relax my boy!

Yet, for a few it's a state of restless unease
Baffled to witness the rampant damages caused by this weird disease.

For me, I spend my days with a lurking fear
Hoping that God does answer my prayer.

Being away from our near ones at such an hour
Does make us yearn their company, oh only if we had the power!

As I now surrender ourselves to Him
I just hope we have one  more chance to drink life to the brim.

Profession: Teacher

Studying Literature has always been my passion since childhood. Hence, it was no wonder that I took up English as my subject in Graduation and Post-Graduation. During my days as a student, I tried my hand at journalism and was associated with various organizations. My mother, who is also a teacher, inspired me heavily and I decided to follow her footsteps. Currently I work for Billabong High International School where I teach English to students of Grades VIII-X.

SDG Story Writing Contest : SDGs by Meerab Butt, Bloomfield Hall School, Pakistan

A civilization rides on the shoulders of its youth force. And when the question is of existence or sustenance of the planet as a whole, the children and the youth of the entire world need to come together, think together and act together to make that possible. Let us read what some of them have to say to us through their stories on SDGs, ponder on what they are trying to say, act accordingly and try and change our ways of life. Perhaps this is the only way we can ensure that human civilization is not wiped out of the face of this Earth .
